How to Make Your Shoes Last Twice as Long

Most shoes are retired long before they're actually worn out — over a stain, a smell, or a loss of shape that good habits would have prevented. Here's how to double their life.

1. Protect before problems

A coat of protection spray stops stains and water damage before they set. Prevention is cheaper than restoration.

2. Clean little and often

Regular gentle cleaning stops grime from becoming permanent and keeps materials supple.

3. Never let them stay wet

Moisture warps shape, degrades glue and breeds odor. Dry shoes fully with a no-heat dryer — never a radiator, which cracks materials.

4. Rotate your pairs

Wearing the same shoes daily never lets them recover. Alternate between two pairs and each lasts far longer.

5. Store them right

Cool, dry, out of direct sun, with shape held by paper or trees. (More on this in our storage guide.)

The payoff

Care over replace: you save money, keep your favorites longer, and send less to landfill. The Complete Care System covers every habit above.
